Picnicking in Huron County

Summer days call for heading outdoors and Huron County has no shortage of scenic picnicking locations. Mandy Sinclair from Tasting Huron County has rounded up her favourite destinations for enjoying a picnic in Huron County.

Benmiller Falls, Benmiller

My maternal grandmother’s family gathers at the Benmiller Falls Reserve every July for a family picnic at this riverside park. This is one of my favourite days of the summer, as it’s filled with family, but also classic Canadian picnic recipes – slow-cooked meats to accompany the fresh salads, butter tarts and raspberry pies to finish and more! My nephews enjoy walking across the Maitland River before swimming in the falls that give this park its name.

We love delivering our Tasting Huron County Along the Way picnic here to families enjoying a day out.

Pioneer Park, Bayfield

The views of sailboats dotting the horizon, turquoise waters ,and wonderful people watching make this is a popular picnic destination for travellers visiting Huron County and Bayfield’s historic main street.

We love delivering Tasting Huron County Along the Way picnics here for lunchtime celebrations or evening sunsets.

Ball’s Bridge, Ashfield Township

The historic bridge over the Maitland River was saved from demolition back in the 1990s and picnicking on the shores is perfect for those who want to add in some fishing (when permissible to do so) to their picnic day out. You’ll want to be sure to bring the bug spray when enjoying a picnic riverside.

Perfect for picnickers looking to get off the beaten path to enjoy a lingering picnic lunch.

Lighthouse Park, Goderich

The perfect spot for enjoying the sunset over Lake Huron in Goderich, a visit Lighthouse Park brings back memories of watching the ships leave the port with my Grandpa McMichael. Enjoy a swim in St. Christopher’s Beach before climbing the stairs leading up to the park for sunset picnic.

We love delivering Tasting Huron County Along the Way picnics here for lunchtime day-trippers or evening sunsets.

Port Albert Beach, Port Albert

Whether a daytime picnic as part of a beach day or a sunset picnic as the sun dips into Lake Huron, I love the Port Albert beach for its rugged feel and sandy beaches. And have no problem staying here from midday to sunset.

Tasting Huron County Along the Way picnic here works well for a romantic date night or gathering with a few friends.
